Play Therapy

Play is your child’s most natural form of expression. Play therapy meets the needs of children and adolescents by using their natural means of responding to the environment. Play therapy is a structured, theoretically based approach to therapy. It uses play, which is the child’s language, to find solutions to everyday problems. By 'playing out' life experiences and exploring feelings through play, children can create a safe distance from their issues so that they can understand and come to terms with them, without feeling judged or being forced to change. Play allows children to practice skills needed for development along with helping them to express their feelings in a non-threatening manner.

Research supports the effectiveness of play therapy with children experiencing a wide variety of social, emotional, behavioral, and learning problems.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is based on the concept of how we think (cognition), how we feel (emotion), and how we act (behavior) all interact together. CBT has been found to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and other mental illnesses.

Behavioral Therapy

Behavioral therapy involves teaching children different methods of responding to situations more positively. A central part of this therapy is rewarding positive behavior. This type of therapy has been found to help treat mood disorders, anxiety, anger issues, ADHD, and phobias.

Parent Consultation Sessions

Parent consultation/strategy sessions will provide parents with age-appropriate expectations, rules, structure, and chores to implement at home. Parents will be given concrete strategies to try at home along with a feedback session to discuss what went well and what needs more work.

Observation Visits

Observation visits are where the mental health therapist visits your child’s school or daycare to observe your child in the environment. This helps to gain information on what issues are occurring in that setting along with developing strategies to help your child.

Postpartum Depression Support

Perinatal and postpartum depression are significant mental health concerns that can affect both parents and their children. Early identification, comprehensive treatment, and strong support systems are crucial for effective management and recovery. These sessions focus on providing education, support, and interventions to help make a difference in the lives of new parents.
